Primary Research: Observation Part two

Following the first primary research, I decided to do more  observation but this time I decided to explore more in different parts of Leicester. I have always been amazed by various statues and monuments which are in my country which gave me an idea to find some statues and monuments in Leicester too because they not only add beauty in the area but also tell tales of history and culture of a particular place or country. They also can provide valuable inspiration. By observing the physical characteristics of each statue such as the poses, expressions and clothing I can gain a better understanding of how to create convincing characters.

One of the first monuments that caught my attention was the Kind Richard III statue which was located in  in Cathedral Gardens. (Richard III Society, 2023)This monument was sculptured in honor of the last Plantagenet King of England, who was killed in the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. James Butler was commissioned by Richard III society in 1980 to build the statue. I learned that the statue is made of bronze and stands 2.7 meters tall. The statue represent King Richard III in armor and with a sword in hand, giving the impression of a powerful and mighty warrior. The pose is very dynamic which can be used as an inspiration for my projects.

Another statue that grabbed my eyes was the Thomas Cook Statue located in the city center next to the entrance of  Leicester Railway Station. The statue is also made up of bronze and I got to know that it was also sculptured by James Butler. The statue shows he is holding a globe in his hand and a leather bag in his right hand. The details in the statue, the use of props and accessories was really impressive. It can help to define a character's personality and profession which can be very handy in my future projects.

Finally, I visited the Leicester Clock Tower. (Leicester City Council, 2023) The clock Tower was build in 1868, carved by the stonemason Samuel Barfield. The design of the clock tower can be an inspiration for creating unique and interesting structures for my project. The clock tower can teach us how to create visually interesting and dynamic backgrounds from statues and monuments.

In conclusion, studying the statues and monuments in Leicester City can help me create more engaging and realistic characters. Additionally, by the stories, design elements and cultural significance of these monuments can help me in my future projects to create animations that are not only visually attracting but also emotionally connecting with audiences.
