Primary Research: Observing Texture, Color And Background

In week 4, we were introduced to primary research. In second session, our tutor took us to a trip to the university and its surroundings. We were advised to do some primary research. We were divided into 2 groups and taken to separate locations. After we reached there, tutor told us to use some observation technique to gather inspiration and ideas for our main project. I decided to take some photos of the environment around me. I tried to be pay close attention to details and variations of subjects found in the environment.

One of the first thing that caught my eye was the colorful arrangement of the area. From bright blue Vijay Patel building to the orange Art Gallery, the colors were eye catching. I made sure to take plenty of photos to use as reference material for my recent project.

As I walked around, I noticed that there were a lot of different textures to be found. There were walls of the buildings, concrete sidewalks with pebbles, dead plants and the textures of the interior part of the Vijay Patel building. These textures added so much depth and brought out the beauty of the environment. I made sure to capture them in my phone. Please see the photos and color palette below that I created after the research.

The background of the area was a mix of nature and man made elements. There were trees and plants growing in sidewalk and along the edges of buildings. There were also lots of decorated artworks inside the buildings. The river side was also full of natural plants and birds. The overall vibe of the area was  wonderful and energetic. They all added an extra layer of visual interest.

Overall, my primary research was a great success. I came away with plenty of reference material for future animation projects too. I got some vibrant color palette, interesting textures and a lively background. I am excited to see how these elements will influence my work in the future.

My next blog will be on the Part two of Primary research.
